SiDCOR raises over $11K at The Inaugural Charity Golf Day
SiDCOR’s inaugural charity golf day was held last Friday to farewell Mark Edmunds and to raise some serious money for the Magic Moments Foundation.
Leaving Newcastle, the weather was not on our side. With bucketing rain there were serious doubts as to whether the game would actually tee off. However, as soon as we drove over the Stockton bridge there was a break in the dark, gloomy skies and the sun came out. SiDCOR’s Inaugural Charity Golf Day was a goer!
Lunch and beverages were served to arriving guests whilst they registered their teams and had a good old yarn. A brief was given by the club on the rules to be followed on the day. The only rule I can really remember was “not to do burnouts in the golf carts.” There were no ‘burnouts’ but plenty of ‘wipe outs’ as the carts plunged through the many puddles that lay waiting around the course. People were zooming from hole to hole mainly to get away from Jade, our photographer, who was chasing everybody with the camera. Some did claim, however, that she helped with their golf swing – #paparazzi.
For many, golf is an endless series of tragedies obscured by the occasional miracle. This was not the case for our winning team. The 18-hole, four person ambrose competition saw the trophy go to Dave Edmunds, Brian Jones, Byron Jones and Travis Tantos. Second place went to Todd Henderson, Anthony Barrett, Peter Aloupis and Philip Jones. In third place was Lou Stojanovski, Craig Steele, Shane Burley and Darren James.
And no one forgot what they were really there for; to raise money for the Magic Moments Foundation and their Leadership Program. The Foundation is a non-profit organisation formed to create a coalition of caring volunteers who are committed to consistently reaching and assisting people who are often forgotten by society. Through our sponsors, competitions on the day, the CVG beer tent, and a major raffle, SiDCOR raised $11,775 for this wonderful charity. This is an incredible amount of money and we would love to thank all the sponsors who contributed on the day. We were so lucky to have Jules Bowden from Magic Moments join us to accept the cheque. Jules is an amazing volunteer and her passion for this organisation is a real inspiration.
While charity was a big part of the day, we had another reason to hold a great golf day – Mark Edmunds’ retirement. Mark Edmunds merged his Nelson Bay Accounting firm MEA with SiDCOR in 2014 bringing with him a great team of staff including his two amazing children, Holly & Dave who will stay on with us. SiDCOR is very appreciative of Mark and for what he has contributed to SiDCOR over the past couple of years and we wish him all the best in the future.
A huge thank you to Tasha for organising such an amazing day, to Matt Hunt for coming up with the idea and a huge thank you to the Newcastle Golf Club for hosting us. From what I heard on the night, many are already looking forward to next year’s event!
